This presentation details the Kony 2012 video campaign, examining the successes and weaknesses for best practices, cautionary tales, and further understanding of social media-based activism.
In the new digital media environment, UGC (user generated content) has reshaped the relationship between the media and the public. The majority of previously conducted studies regarding online news comments examine the social aspects of this relationship by textual analysis of UGC content. This study tries to evaluate the relationship from the newsrooms perspective and how this new link between readers and news makers affect the news agenda itself.
